Gratitude*Monday

Gratitude*Monday

I'm joining Taryn at Wooly Moss Roots and several other lovely bloggers in honoring the things for which we've been grateful for throughout the week. A quiet, weekly practice of appreciation and positivity. A time to breath and reflect.

If you would like to join us, just click the image at the bottom of this post.

This Week I am Grateful For:

* Spotting that awesome hercules beetle outside of my office building. He's a big sucker too at approximately 2"!

* Sunny skies and breezy winds.

* Much needed rain all day yesterday in the form of some pretty heavy thunderstorms. A tornado spun up about 15 minutes from here; I'm glad we didn't have to deal with that and that everyone I know is ok.

* Starting a fresh new painting on a clean canvas with my eclectic music turned up and my intuition ready to rock and roll.

* Making Indian food for the first time and doing a bang up amazing job, if I do say so myself! Ginger Coconut curried chicken and rice, you are delicious!

* Feeling called to work on this emerging lady in tandum with friend and soul-paint sister Connie as she worked live from her studio the other day on this glorious hot mess of a painting. I can't quite explain why it happened, but it felt deep and soulful. I had picked up my brush to give this painting some love, remembered Connie was streaming live and had the overwhelming desire to turn my monitor around so I could peek at her process while I worked. Beautiful things, these art-inspired ties and friendships!

* Getting quite the steal at an even closer farmer's market than the one I usually go to - this one's in my own town and I never knew it existed until this past week! It looks small, just 8 or 9 tents but I got the BEST haul I've ever managed before. I couldn't even fit it all in the picture! But there's locally raised and processed cornish hen and sausages, 1 lb of huge wild caught shrimp that the woman who runs the tent's husband catches late Friday nights for them to sell, 1 dozen fresh eggs, 3 lbs potatoes, 4 tomatoes, 3 zucchini, onions, lettuce, cucumbers and even some homemade organic dog treats and I got this all for... drum roll... $40! My local supermarket's got nothing on these prices!

* Adventures in quilting, part two. Some of you may remember (most of you won't) that I tried my hand at quilting for the first time a few years ago and despite my slap dash, rule breaker self making things more difficult than they needed to be, I rather enjoyed creating and using my picnic quilt. My fabric stash has gotten beyond out of control, so I'm cutting it up in to tiny squares once more (I had some left over from quilt #1) and am going to attempt to make a quilt for my bed... which is queen sized. Still not using 'proper' tools or methods of measuring. Ye gods. Wish me luck!

* Chopping off over 13" of hair! It was a total spur of the moment decision and one that I considered doing myself as I've not had a professional haircut in... 3 years or so. I walked out of the office on another blisteringly hot and humid day and my hair immediately went up in to its usual summer bun to get it off my neck and shoulders and I decided, what's the point in having long hair if you can't enjoy it? So in I went to my local Great Clips, shelled out less than $15 and walked out weighing a few pounds less. My hair went from mid back to mid neck and it feels awesome. I'm actually tossing around the idea of going even shorter in a little bit, it's so easy to take care of and way less knotty! We'll see.

* Baby plants in the garden are continuing to thrive! My peppers, tomatillo and peas are already flowering. I can't wait to taste them!
* That I was able to save the past 4 months of this blog after it disappeared, despite my not having backed it up in quite some time. It took a lot of work; searching, copy, pasting and re-linking and I spammed the shit out of reader feeds but I would have been devastated had I lost all those entries. For me, this is my journal; I don't keep a paper one, This is where I come to re-read, reflect and see how I've grown and changed. My little blog.

  1. Glad you were able to save the blog. It reminds me I haven't backed up my own in a while...

And Danni, every time I see a photo of you now I'm struck by how great those new glasses look. And the shorter hair just shows them off more!

  5. I love reading these posts. That beetle is amazing! I love bugs. I'm a weirdo like that. I also LOVE your amazing finds at the farmer's market! I am like a kid in a candy store at those places. We have a great one a few miles from us and it has fresh seafood from offshore here. We grill that shit up with some Jersey Corn and then it's on like donkey kong jack!
