Gaining a Rhythm

Now that the funk of the past few months has seemingly lifted its head for good and I'm beginning to settle into my new, currently crazy, work schedule I'm grasping for a rhythm of sorts. My mind is just a swirl of wants and needs, of the physical, spiritual and artful varieties, but for a while there I was having a hard time catering to any desire aside from sleeping and eating.

While I'm not typically one for routine, I feel that right now I need something like that to get me back to the way I was before I was walloped by apathy for several months. And so, I'm working it out and working on getting myself back into shape mentally and physically.

Each morning that I go into work a bit later, I exercise then brew myself a cup of coffee and pull a card from my Heart of Faerie Oracle Deck. I pay attention to any jumpers and if I feel the need to pull more than one card, I go with it. Through this exercise the Green Woman has been calling to me, showing up nearly every day for the past two weeks and always accompanied by an electric tingle of sorts as I view her. She, the Lady of the Greenwood, the wild feminine nature beckons to me and I will listen; for she is one that I have long wished to run with.

I make time to read each day as well, for pleasure, knowledge or growth. Frequently I find myself reading two or three books at a time and I've stopped trying to get out of the habit. Just a short while before the Green Woman began to show up in the cards I began to read The Women Who Run With the Wolves. I'm absorbing it slowly, reading one chapter at a time and taking the time to meditate on and digest it. Not even halfway through the first chapter it had grasped my heart and began to tug at it and tell if that it's come a long way in healing and it can reclaim itself fully; don't give up. In addition to that, I've been reading A Feast for Crows and am planning to begin Paul Huson's Mastering Witchcraft.

I've also been attempting to take the time to sketch each day, or at least work on something crafty at home. There's a recycled cereal box Yule village in the works that I hope to finish and display right after Thanksgiving, as well as some new spoon wands and pendants that I'll be listing in the shop shortly.

And that's my daily rhythm for now. Weekends and days off are a bit more free form; everyone needs to let loose and play sometimes, right?

  1. I can relate to your months of apathy. I have just come out of a period of anxiety, which took up my mind space with negative thoughts and, many times, physical pains. Your post caught my eye in my RSS feed as I was about to post on my own blog. I hope you continue to have happy, creative days, and I do really enjoy your art!

  2. Love this deck. And as for Women Who Run With the Wolves - well this book changed my life. I re-read it when I needed to years after I first read it. I've purchased it as gifts for special people. Keep reading it. It's magical.

Taking time to do small but important spiritual or personal things every day works to give purpose to life. Apathy is replaced with hope.

    I wish this for you.

  3. It has been my experience, in my old life, that I have so much in common with the wheel and seasons. My energies ebb and flow. I have tried to master this occurance but now I just go with the flow ever mindful that I must be ready for the change when it happens. We all have choices but sometimes our internal workings are lead by other than ourselves so that we "experience" things we would not have chosen.
I am so glad you are rounding the bend and coming back to a place that you desire. Lessons and rewards they keep us going. Give Joe a squooze for me and know I am thinking of you both. Oma Linda

  4. I have n't read that book, but now i really want to. I can relate deeply with your rhythms, and your need to allow your wild femininity to be free.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. I love this deck and the other deck by brian Froud. Both are my favorite decks.

I purchased Women Who Run With Wolves not too long ago at a used book store. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I think I'll start soon.

    Blessings, V.

  6. Good on you for making time for things that enrich your life! I read Women Who Run With Wolves many years ago but I don't think I was really ready for it. I have bought it again and it is in my to-read list.

  7. There must be something in the air... I, too, have been looking at things and getting in line. I want to give myself a writing challenge and make it a daily thing.

I would never try to read only one book at the time; I can't lol.

  8. Danni it makes me glad to read that you're getting back to the things you love. I've been feeling the same type of pull myself and hope to get back to creating soon. Day to day life is hard, it's important to take the time for the things that make you happy.

    Hugs!

  9. I just bought myself a copy of Women Who Run With the Wolves (a used hard back copy at the recommendation of my SouLodge sisters). I haven't started reading it yet....but it is sitting next to my chair waiting for me. I love how you are making the time to take care of yourself....it is so important and we often forget to do that for ourselves.

  10. I'm feeling the need for some sort of routine as well. I think when we're blown about by life, when we finally begin to settle again it's comforting to have at least a few routine things we can count on. ^-^

I'm super excited to see you cereal box village! I've got one in the works as well...

Hope you're having a good week!

    XOXO

  12. I love having my little routines and Rituals. I also love being spur of the moment. Balance, it's always about balance.

I've been pulling a card (or two or three) a day from various oracle decks I have for years. It really is one of my favorite parts of my morning.....aside from my coffee.
