The Cone of Shame

Yesterday was Miss Luna's 6 month UnBirthday. Unfortunately for her, she swapped out a party hat and cake for painkillers and this beauty:

The Cone of Shame! Please, keep the mocking to a minimum. After all, the wee princess still has her pride:

My poor, pouty girl was spayed Monday afternoon. No puppies for her! When they took her away from me at the vet's office along with her little stuffed toy, I barely made it to my car before I bawled my eyes out. Really, she was only going to be gone for one night and I couldn't handle it. I felt like a horrible fur-mommy, I just knew she was going to be upset about being in a weird place with weird people over-night. People told me she would ignore me the next day in a snooty fit of anger. I was worried to death until they called me to tell me she was awake and doing well; her surgery went smooth as can be.

Then in the morning, I was there at 10am on the nose to get my girl. When they brought her out, at first she was calm and just looking around and I felt my heart drop a little. But then, she saw me and she freaked out. She was so excited to see me she peed on the nurse and I couldn't help but laugh and maybe cry again - just a little bit. Then the nurses went over how I have to keep her from jumping and getting too excited and again, I laughed. Seriously, would you imagine this critter had just had a major surgery?

But she did. And in between snoozing and crawling on my lap and bumping into things with the cone she even found time to audition to be the next iconic Gramophone dog.

It's amazing to me, how very attached to this fur baby I've gotten since we brought her home to live with us in April. And how very far we've come from those miserable (seriously, I'm not going to pretend they were magical and wonderful) first weeks of potty training, crate training and getting used to a new 'person' to fit into our schedule. I wouldn't ever want to go back, but I'm happy we persevered.

Happy UnBirthday Loony Miss Luna!

  2. So glad Luna made it through "the operation" with flying colors. It is hard to keep a doggy quiet when they want to be playing. She will be much healthier too, having had this surgery. You are a good mama!!

  3. Hurray for the inhabitants of The Whimsical Cottage. Your Luna baby is precious and good for all of you that she came through her ordeal just fine.

  4. I'm glad that you both made it. I bet Luna was just as worried about her fur-mommy.

  5. Oh, your post got me misty too! You are a wonderful fur Mommy. I have no human offspring, but I don't see how I could possibly love a human one any more than I love my sweet canine daughter. She is my life. We've have scares with her down here in Palm Tree Land and both hubby and I were scared beyond reason. You keep doing what you're doing, Momma. Luna is a lucky little girl.

  6. I know I almost lost it completely when I had to bring in my two "girls" for being spayed. I imagined the worst and cried when I got them home. You're a very good mommy to care so deeply about Miss Luna and her health.

  7. Birthday blessings Miss Luna! Yea, we do love our fur-babies. I had trouble sleeping last night. I clipped my dogs ear yesterday trying to get him trimmed up and pretty (He's a Great Pyrenees who was badly in need of grooming/ bath) I felt so bad that I'd hurt him... though he was more upset about the bath than my taking a small chunk off the edge of his ear.

    Snuggle Miss Luna for me.
    Blessings ~Rain

  8. Oh, you're poor little Luna! The cone of shame is an evil device indeed!!! My girl Diana is going to have to go in for her "special" surgery in a few months, herself. I'm totally dreading it, because, I know I'm going to be a wreck until she's safe in my arms again. So happy to see Luna came through hers with flying colors, and she didn't give you the brush off afterwards.

    Cheers,

    Kitty

  9. Oh my... what a cutie! =D

You're a wonderful fur-mommy... that's why you took her in to the vet in the first place. ^-^ But I totally know how you feel... Britt usually does the crying/sobbing when we take the kitties in, but I always feel like a giant turd, leaving my kitties with strangers. Especially the youngest two, who are way too sensitive! XD They're the biggest of our cats, but by far the biggest babies... lolz.

Glad your fur baby is back and hope she's healing quickly so she may be un-coned. ^-^

    XOXO

  12. Oh, poor little Miss Luna. Honey, I am the same way about leaving one of my own fur babies at the Vet's and when we go out of town, which is rare being the homebody that I am, I always have my daughter come stay with them so their schedule is not disrupted. We do become so attached. ;-) I love that video and the gramophone image. She is so adorable! Hugs, sweetie.
