Welcome, Spring!

Spring has always been my second favorite season, right behind Autumn. It's neither too cold nor too hot to be completely comfortable outside and is a period of transition. Counter to my beloved Autumn, which is a transition into death and the dark half of the year, Spring is a time of rebirth and ushers in the brighter half of the year. The Goddess walks the Earth in maiden form once more, bringing beauty through the green and growing things and the God continues to regain his strength. Soon the two will be reunited; blessing the lands with fertility and prosperity.

The Earth is shrugging off the white blanket of winter and beginning to wake up. Trees are beginning to bud, seeds are pushing their way through the toughened Earth to bask in the rays of the warming sun. You can hear the Song of Spring sung by a multitude of birds as they begin to feed and woo each other. The bees are back and buzzing about, fertilization of plant and animal alike takes place and soon there will be babies abounding.

The Earth isn't the only thing awakening right now, I can feel the touch of Spring tapping my inner child on the shoulder, telling her that it's once more time to come out and play. Time to run barefoot through cold grass, to sniff early blooming flowers, to break out the lawn games and invite friends over.

I feel a lightening of spirit and a sort of buzzing in my heart as the sun grows stronger. It's time for this witch to get outside and get her hands in the Earth; to plant and weed, to get dirty and sweaty. It's also time to cleanse and bless the house once more, to throw open the windows and use the renewing energy of Spring to drive out the glum and gloom that's accumulated in the place during the shut-up darkness of Winter.

How does Spring make you feel? What does it mean to you?

  1. Danni, such a beautiful post about Spring. It makes me feel just like you, and I love the longer light in the evenings. Looking forward to swinging on my porch swing and listening to the night. Spring blessings to you! Robin.

  2. aaahhh so beautiful! I am hoping to be doing the same soon, gloomy rains and chilly winds have kept me from getting my flower garden started this week, although it's being said the weekend is suppose to be just gorgeous, so fingers crossed!
I love Autumn for it's pretty colors and of course Hallowe'en/Samhain but am beginning to tune into Nature much more strongly so Spring is just an anticipation growing for me, I cannot wait to be doing the same.

  3. It's funny that you mentioned the lawn games. In my dream last night you, me and our Joes were dressed in victorian attire and playing crochet on your back lawn. You had set a lovely table with gorgeous mismatched china and tea and cakes of all kinds were to be had. Our Joes had much to visit about and we just stood and smiled at them. I have not idea but there ya go. I woke up thinking I had to tell you. ???? The Olde Bagg

  4. The Fall and Spring are my fave. seasons too...I associate Spring with soft rains and new gorgeous flowers like the images you've used. Everything feels, well...just pink. And the Fae's love the Spring too, so I work with their energy a lot now.

  5. Spring makes my inner child squee! She comes bursting forth with glee & gladness, running through the forests & the fields... Feet bare & arms spread wide, face turned toward the sun. Laughter on her lips & joy in her heart.

Hope you're having fun in your garden! =D

  6. I enjoy Spring and the refreshingness of it after a long hard Winter, however, those energies tend to make me a little manic at times. I'm definitely a dark wheel woman. Litha is my favorite holiday because it marks the beginning of the dark half.

    muahahahhahaha (rubbing hands together maniacally)

  7. I too love the transitional seasons of Spring and Fall and I tend to get a bit giddy during both. With Spring it's the waking up and coming back to life and with Fall comes Halloween!

  8. Wonderful post!!

I loooooove Fall- before I even became "pagan" I always threw a first day of fall party! Its the happiest day of the year to me!

Spring to me is a time for planting, cooking outside, yard art, enjoying a good book on my patio, and flip flops! All things that make me happy!!!! And it means summer is right around the corner... (7 weeks left of school/work for me! But who's counting?!)I love transitional seasons and winter, but I don't care much for texas summers :( too darn hot!

  10. Lovely post! I feel much the same about Spring as you do. Today I took my first lunchtime nap on the lawn and it was wonderful! Still a little chilly but the sun was out and awake and singing "Spring is here!" in every ray!

  11. What a wonderful post :-) I have to say that having some sunny days over here in the UK this past week has brightened my spirits! Spring is a time of re-birth and new beginnings so am starting to feel positive and creative. Can I also say that your photos are awesome - have you ever thought of a career in photography?! If not then I think you should! Love n'Light x
