Practical Magic

Practical Magic Blog Party

When I signed on to be a part of the Practical Magic blog party, I had never seen the movie so decided what better way to celebrate than by sitting down and watching it for the very first time! I had however, not anticipated the fact that I would be in a hotel room in my home state of New Jersey and not in my cozy apartment in South Carolina with all of my witchy wares and herbs and would be unable to do much aside from simply watch the movie.

However, I had no idea how difficult it would be to get my hands on a copy of the movie to watch it nor how deeply it would effect me. After much consternation and a bit of my love's wizardry I was able to watch the movie this afternoon and I was so happy to have been able to watch this after having a few days surrounded by the important and special women in my life. Had I watched it a week or so ago, before we came up here, I may have viewed it in a completely different light. After watching it this afternoon however, my heart was filled with happiness and I shed more than a few tears. The movie focuses even more of it's time on sisterhood, of the blood and friendship varieties, than on magic. It made me realize I'm blessed to have an ever growing number of beautiful sisters in my life both near and far to send me support with the flick of a broom! As for my blood relations, I can tell you my sister is absolutely the Gilly to my Sally.

The other thing that caught my eye and tugged on my heart was the honest way they approached and portrayed certain aspects of witch craft. I particularly enjoyed the conversation between Gary and Sally regarding the craft and the gorgeous spell book within the family's home. It is that spell book and it's beautiful pictures and flowing scripts, the vast array of spells with their thick pages that most inspired me and I believe that once I get back from my vacation here and settle in again, I will set to work creating something unstructured and beautiful all my own as well as writing a few new spells.

It will be the perfect way to reconnect to my path and take some much needed spiritual time for myself. I'll happily post my progress as it comes along as well as any other Practical Magic inspiration that sneaks in after I've returned home.

Until then dear hearts, thank you for stopping by. Remember always throw salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck and fall in love whenever you can.

  5. It's it truly magickal when the universe lets you discover when and where "you can". Your comment about when you saw this movie is as prophetic as your moving to SC and the finding of Danni. Your family, your life and all that surround and support you are precious but sometimes we need to be where we need to be in order to "love it all" and appreciate it. Great things are waiting for you to claim them. You are truly blessed. This movie is one of my all time favorite "attitude adjustments". I watch it and it's like going to the magickal chiropractor.....all things pop back in place. with much XOXOXOXO The Olde Bagg

  6. I love their book of shadows, but I've been lusting over their greenhouse and their shop since I first watch the movie. Aren't they just a dream come true? I can't wait to have the space, time and money to make at least half of the dream a reality!

  8. How exciting to get the chance to watch the movie again for the very first time. You must read the book - I thought the book was ten times better, which is saying a lot.

My sister and I are obsessed with this story as we like to think of ourselves as the Owen girls, LOL. Her name is even Jill - close enough! :)

  12. Flying through for the Practical Magic Blog Party! Welcome to South Carolina! I was a bit worried too when I moved here about 5 years ago, hubby and I tucking our pentacle necklaces behind our shirts, but I've been to more rituals and met more witches in the bible belt than when I lived on the "liberal" west coast lol ~Blessings~

  16. It's amazing that the movie speaks so deeply to us, even on the first viewing! I've seen it hundreds of times and always wipe tears from my eyes. I posted about sisters and intuition as it was the most powerful aspect of the movie to me. Feel free to drop a line...

  18. Great post, wonderful sharing! I am a jersey girl...still hear, thinking of moving to the Carolinas...but some new info is making me think twice. I'll always love NJ, but now disabled and hubby is older and needs to retire, MONEY is the main factor. However NJ has the BEST aid to the disabled and the aged. so still researching. Where in NJ are you from? I was born and lived in Iselin (woodbridge township) til the age of 13, then we moved to brick (northern Ocean County, then 3 years later to Forked River. I lived there all through my teen years and most of my 20s, then Hubby and I moved to Waretown ( but we are so far west, that our mail is out of Barnegat...we live in the woods, the edge of the Pine Barrens.
Hubby is originally from Linden. My Father's Family is from Jersey City...way back in the day!

I am a follower and would love to pick your brain, as I am new to this path of spirituality.

    Peace,
    Susan

PS...healing and comfort vibes coming your way for your eye!
