A Coming Together

I'm sure I'm not overstepping anything by assuming everyone has seen the photos and listened to the news about the destruction in the Gulf Coast. I've been sickened and worried and angry to the point of shaking and crying over all of this. I don't have the words right now to describe exactly how I feel... I've been brooding and quietly melancholy.

Not Hannah over at Divining Women has managed to find words more eloquent than mine to describe some of the feelings myself and thousands of others are experiencing. Even more than that though, she has proposed that we join together to try to heal our Oceans.

The Ocean is my constant sanctuary, I will be joining in the watery ritual. I hope many of you will too.

  1. I, like you, am having a hard time just pretending that everything is going along fine. I had a conversation yesterday evening with a woman at GK's dance lesson and mentioned how upset I was at what was happening and she looked at me and said "I can't waste my time worrying about stuff that does not affect me". The look on GK's face told the entire tale in a split second, RUN>>>>>> she's gonna blow.
But I didn't blow. I just very calmly and quietly explained that no matter who we are, where we live on this planet, everything that happens to the water is our business and it is pressing business....not later on business. Then I got up and moved. GK later asked if I was mad at the woman. I said it would do me no good to be mad at her and would only take away my concentration and energy to share the planet's truth.
But I wanted to kick her ass.
Rock on with your caring self my dear.

  2. I want to kick her ass and I wasn't even there! The apathy and wanton lack of regard for our home that some people have is beyond me. I can't even fathom not caring, at least a little, about what happens to the ocean even if you aren't an environmentalist, pagan, do-gooder, lover of marine life, etc. If you paid attention in 5th grade science class you know that the ocean absorbs tons of harmful carbon dioxide and produces oxygen for us. You know that it brings us the rains that our Earth desperately needs to grow the crops that we and the animals so many people eat need to survive.

How can you know it's central to our continued existence and STILL not care, at least a little? As it stands for me, every time I read an article about who is pointing the finger at whom about this mess I find myself wanting to yell fix it first and point fingers later. I don't care who caused it right now, I care about it being contained and cleaned up.

I got all ranty again, go figure. ;) You keep rocking on with your calm correction of dumbasses my dear. *hugs*

  3. It is the current culture to only care about that which directly affects us, and then not really do much about that other then bitch about it. It's rather sickening but it's what all the politicians wanted and dreamed about in their little twisted dreams. Sometimes I feel like I'm trapped in an episode of the twilight zone...

  5. I am also sickened and just can not understand how people can stand by and act as though this is nothing. Just being a human being we are 98% water...so water in any form should be important and vital to us. We need these oceans to survive and thrive. We should be concerned about even the smallest pollution, and something like this should have us jumping out of our boots. I'm going to see if I can find the ritual and continue doing my small ones. You are not alone.
