Review & Giveaway: The Hypnotist

The Hypnotist by M.J. Rose

M.J Rose's The Hypnotist is the third book in her Reincarnationist series and I will admit that I was a bit concerned that I would be a bit lost jumping into this book having not read the others.

Luckily, I was wrong. Opening with the brutal murder of a budding young artist in a NYC frame shop, The Hypnotist draws you in to the life of its main character, Lucian Glass. Lucian, an agent with the FBI's Art Crime Team is engrossed in a case regarding the infamous reincarnationist, Malachai Samuels, a man who is linked to numerous crimes around the world. Determined to gather concrete evidence to bring him down, Lucian goes undercover as a patient at the Phoenix Foundation, a practice dedicated to helping people learn about and cope with the guilt and experiences carried over from past lives.

What Lucian doesn't know, however, is that these sessions will entangle his current and past lives with a magnificent ancient sculpture that is desperately wanted by the Iranian government as well as a wealthy and powerful man, both of which will go to great lengths to possess it.

A well written blend of mystery, murder and art The Hypnotist held my attention to such a degree that I finished the 412 page novel in a single afternoon. There are masterful plot overlaps, that add rather then detract from the book and the descriptions of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (where a good portion of the book is centered) had me smiling in joyful remembrance of the numerous times I've walked through its exhibits.

Definitely a must read for fans of mystery, art, thrillers or those intrigued by the prospect of reincarnation. And, luckily for all of my fellow bookworms, M.J Rose and her publishers have offered up a copy to one of you lovelies!

The giveaway is for a hard copy of the novel (available to US and Canadian readers only, No PO boxes, please) or a PDF copy which will be available to any lucky reader regardless of where in the world you are! The contest will run until June 16th, with the winner being announced on the 17th.
